When alcohol, nicotine, or another substance is involved, precision can be misleading. BAC Calculator gives a structured estimate from the data entered while keeping its clinical limits in view.
What this calculator does
BAC Calculator uses I was drinking in…, Sex, Body weight, Started drinking (hours ago), Large beers, Wine glasses, Vodka shots, and Raw alcohol to calculate BAC. It is built around the exact fields displayed in this plugin rather than a generic version of the topic. Where supported, it also shows Raw alcohol, Time until sober, and Legal limit so the primary result is easier to place in context. Substance-use calculators can organize exposure or screening information, but they cannot determine impairment, withdrawal safety, diagnosis, or prognosis on their own. When there is risk of overdose or dangerous withdrawal, clinical care takes priority over the score.
How to use it
Complete the requested fields, including I was drinking in…, Sex, Body weight, Started drinking (hours ago), Large beers, and Wine glasses, then finish the remaining items shown in the calculator. Confirm that each yes/no, category, date, or score option is applied exactly as labeled. Keep amounts, dates, and questionnaire answers within the same exposure or screening timeframe requested by the tool.
How the calculation works
The calculator uses a Widmark-style estimate. It converts the entered drink counts into grams of alcohol unless raw alcohol is supplied, divides alcohol by a sex-specific distribution factor and body weight, then subtracts 0.017 percentage points of BAC per elapsed hour. It also estimates time to zero and time below the country limit stored in the tool.
Example
Using the sample values prefilled in this calculator, the primary result is 0 % (Estimated blood alcohol content), Raw alcohol is 0 g, and Time until sober is 0 h. This worked example shows how the plugin’s own default inputs flow through the implemented method; replace them with the correct patient, laboratory, imaging, or personal values before interpreting a result.
How to interpret the result
The result summarizes estimated blood alcohol content from the entered information. Use it to understand exposure, screening status, or elapsed time—not as a judgment about a person. When the tool produces a positive screening category or higher-dependence band, the useful next step is a fuller assessment and support rather than self-diagnosis.
Limitations and notes
BAC calculators cannot account accurately for absorption, food, drink timing, body composition, medications, illness, or individual metabolism. The result must never be used to decide whether it is safe or legal to drive; only time and appropriate testing can establish actual BAC.
