The Coffee Footprint Calculator estimates the environmental impact of your coffee routine across ten coffee styles. It can model your current routine or compare it with practical sustainability changes such as reusable cups, lower-impact milk choices, sustainable sourcing, and reducing canned coffee.
How to use it
Enter how many servings of each coffee you drink and whether those amounts are per day, week, month, or year. If your serving sizes differ from the standard cups, enable volume changes. Then choose the result period. In sustainability mode, select the habits you want to change.
What the results mean
The calculator reports estimated CO₂e, water use, caffeine, land use, and easy-to-understand equivalences such as gasoline, driving distance, smartphone charging, and trees needed to offset the modeled emissions.
Reference check
The model is calibrated so one standard espresso per day produces about 2.93 kg CO₂ and roughly 4,347 L of water over a 31-day month, matching the published reference example.
Limitations
Coffee life-cycle values vary by farming, milk, packaging, transport, electricity, brewing, and study boundary. Treat the results as scenario estimates rather than a product-specific life-cycle assessment.
