Use this calculator when you need a clean force conversion between kilogram-force and newtons. The relationship is exact enough for ordinary engineering work because standard gravity is defined as 9.80665 m/s².
What this calculator does
The kg to Newtons Calculator converts kilogram-force (kgf) to newtons (N) and can also work in reverse. Pound-force is shown as a supporting cross-check so the same force can be compared in another familiar unit.
How to use it
Enter either kilogram-force or newtons. When you enter 10 kgf, the calculator returns the corresponding force in newtons and also shows pound-force. If you start with newtons instead, it divides by the same standard-gravity factor to recover kgf.
How the calculation works
The governing conversion is 1 kgf = 9.80665 N. Therefore N = kgf × 9.80665, while kgf = N ÷ 9.80665. This is a force-to-force conversion: kilogram-force should not be confused with kilogram mass.
Example
For 10 kgf, the result is 98.0665 N. The same force is about 22.0462 lbf. Converting 98.0665 N back to kilogram-force returns 10 kgf, which provides a useful reverse check.
How to interpret the result
Newtons are the SI unit of force. Kilogram-force expresses the force that standard gravity would exert on one kilogram of mass. Use the converted force with the unit attached, especially when a specification uses “kg” loosely but actually means kgf.
Limitations and notes
This conversion uses standard gravity, not the slightly different local gravitational acceleration at a particular location. For most force-unit conversions that distinction is intentional because kgf is defined using standard gravity.
