kVA to Amperage Calculator

V
A

Electrical shortcut formulas are useful only when phase, units, and circuit assumptions are kept straight. kVA to Amperage Calculator targets current from apparent power and shows the relationship behind the number rather than treating it as a black-box design approval.

What this calculator does

The kVA to Amperage Calculator centers on current from apparent power using the fields that are actually present here: Load distribution, Voltage type, Apparent power (S), Voltage (V), Amperage (I). Rather than treating every box as an independent input, use the equation below to identify the driving quantities and read the remaining fields as derived or supporting values when appropriate.

How to use it

Choose single- or three-phase load distribution. For three phase, identify whether the voltage is line-to-line or line-to-neutral, then enter apparent power and voltage.

How the calculation works

For single phase, I = S/V. For three-phase line-to-line voltage, I = S/(√3 VLL); for line-to-neutral voltage, the implemented relation is I = S/(3 VLN). Apparent power S is converted from kVA to VA before the division.

Example

A 10 kVA single-phase load at 230 V draws about 10,000/230 = 43.48 A. The same 10 kVA on a balanced 400 V three-phase line-to-line supply is about 14.43 A.

How to interpret the result

For kVA to Amperage Calculator, read current from apparent power in the context of the equation above. Interpret the result as the output of the stated circuit relationship, not as automatic confirmation that a component, conductor, or installation is adequately rated. Cross-check units and phase convention, then apply real equipment limits and applicable electrical standards separately.

Limitations and notes

This converts apparent power, not real power, so power factor is not needed when kVA is already known. Real conductor and protective-device sizing requires more than current alone: duty cycle, harmonics, temperature, installation method, starting current, code requirements, and phase balance can all matter.
