Functional and geriatric scales are designed to summarize patterns that a clinician or caregiver has already observed. Osteoporosis Risk Calculator converts those observations into the specific score used by this tool.
What this calculator does
Osteoporosis Risk Calculator uses Biological sex, Age, Weight, COPD, Ethnicity, Fracture history, and the remaining displayed fields to produce the score — female osteoporosis risk estimate used by this calculator. It only uses the fields shown in this calculator; it does not silently add tests, diagnoses, symptoms, or clinical variables that are absent from the interface. sex-dependent osteoporosis screen: SCORE for women and MORES for men, with published factor tables and formulas.
How to use it
Enter or select Biological sex, Age, Weight, COPD, Ethnicity, and the remaining displayed fields. Score what is actually observed for the person under the scale’s intended conditions rather than the best performance you think is possible. If an input is unknown, it is better to leave the calculation unresolved than to invent a value.
How the calculation works
The engine uses different published screening models by sex. For men it applies MORES points from age, weight in pounds, and COPD. For women it applies the SCORE equation using age, weight, ethnicity category, non-traumatic fracture history, rheumatoid arthritis, and prior estrogen use.
Example
Using the calculator’s prefilled demonstration values, the primary output is 9.07 points, labeled “SCORE — female osteoporosis risk estimate”; Ethnicity points is 5 and Fracture points is 0. That sample is useful for checking the calculation path, but real interpretation should use verified measurements from the same clinical or study context.
How to interpret the result
Read score — female osteoporosis risk estimate as a summary of the selected functional, cognitive, risk, or comorbidity items. It is most useful for communication and tracking when the same version and scoring conditions are used consistently over time.
Limitations and notes
SCORE and MORES are screening tools, not fracture-probability calculators and not substitutes for DXA or validated fracture-risk assessment. The women’s historical SCORE includes an ethnicity term; that reflects the source model and should not be interpreted as a biological explanation of osteoporosis.
