A pet-sitting quote can be hard to compare when one sitter charges per visit, another charges per day, and a third gives a single trip total. The Pet Sitter Rates Calculator normalizes a total price into an effective hourly rate using the number of care hours and days you enter.

What this calculator does

The current calculator asks for hours of pet sitting per day, number of days, and total pet-sitting cost. It multiplies hours by days to find the total care hours, divides the total cost by those hours, and reports the effective hourly rate. The result card also shows total hours, total cost, and average cost per day.

How to use it

Enter the actual hours that represent hands-on or booked care each day, then enter the number of days covered by the quote and the complete price you expect to pay. If overnight presence is billed as a flat service rather than true hourly labor, be consistent about what you call an hour; otherwise the hourly comparison can be misleading. Include taxes, booking fees, holiday surcharges, extra-pet charges, or travel fees in total cost only if you want them included in the effective rate.

How the calculation works

The calculation is straightforward: total hours = hours per day × days, hourly rate = total cost ÷ total hours, and daily cost = total cost ÷ days. Because the tool is normalizing a quote rather than predicting a market price, it does not need assumptions about local wage levels or the number of pets.

Example

With the default inputs of 8 hours per day for 5 days and a total cost of $400, total booked care is 40 hours. The calculator returns an effective pet-sitting rate of $10.00 per hour and an average cost of $80.00 per day.

How to interpret the result

Use the result to compare the structure of different quotes, not to judge service quality by rate alone. A higher effective rate may include medication administration, multiple walks, overnight responsibility, travel, specialized animal care, or low-volume scheduling. Compare what is actually included, cancellation rules, insurance, experience, and the amount of unattended time alongside the normalized price.

Limitations and notes

The calculator does not estimate what a sitter should charge in a particular city and does not account automatically for visits, overnight premiums, extra pets, holidays, tipping, platform fees, or taxes. If a quote mixes flat-rate overnight care with short visits, an hourly conversion can oversimplify the service. Use the same definition of hours and total cost when comparing providers.
