In acute care, a score can support a rapid shared language, but it cannot replace the patient in front of you. Sepsis Calculator (Sepsis-3 Criteria) calculates the specific bedside score or index from the fields shown in this tool.

What this calculator does

Sepsis Calculator (Sepsis-3 Criteria) counts SIRS criteria and separately displays qSOFA-style criteria from the entered vital signs and WBC. It only uses the fields shown in this calculator; it does not silently add tests, diagnoses, symptoms, or clinical variables that are absent from the interface. Uses standard health-calculator relationships where a stable equation exists; complex or policy-dependent tools expose assumptions/points so the result can be checked against the current clinical or public-health source.

How to use it

Enter or select Respiratory rate (/min), Systolic BP (mmHg), Altered mentation, Temperature (°C), Heart rate (/min), and White blood cells (×10⁹/L). Use the actual observations or labs from the assessment time point intended by the score. If an input is unknown, it is better to leave the calculation unresolved than to invent a value.

How the calculation works

This build counts four SIRS-style criteria from temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate, and WBC, and separately displays three qSOFA-style criteria from respiratory rate, systolic pressure, and altered mentation. It does not calculate a full SOFA change or determine whether infection is present.

Example

Using the calculator’s prefilled demonstration values, the primary output is 0 SIRS criteria, labeled “Fewer than two SIRS criteria”; qSOFA-style criteria is 0. That sample is useful for checking the calculation path, but real interpretation should use verified measurements from the same clinical or study context.

How to interpret the result

Read the output as counts of SIRS and qSOFA-style findings. It should not be labeled “sepsis present” or “sepsis absent” because the calculator does not establish infection or calculate full SOFA organ dysfunction.

Limitations and notes

Despite its title, this page does not calculate the Sepsis-3 definition: it displays SIRS and qSOFA-style criteria and does not establish infection or a ≥2-point acute SOFA increase. Sepsis is a clinical emergency and cannot be diagnosed or excluded by one score.
