US Income Percentile Calculator is a reference-distribution tool: it compares an entered U.S. income with a statistical income distribution and reports an approximate percentile.
What this calculator does
Enter annual income together with the comparison context shown on the form. The output should be interpreted against the survey population and reference year used by the calculator rather than as a live government or payroll record.
How to use it
Enter annual income, household size when requested, and the comparison group. Confirm that the selected comparison matches the question you are asking—for example, individual and household income percentiles are not interchangeable.
How the calculation works
An income percentile maps the entered income to a reference distribution and interpolates between available percentile points. Because the result is dataset-dependent, the survey year, income definition, and population are part of the model.
Example
A percentile of 70 means the entered income is above roughly 70% of the reference population; it does not mean the income is 70% higher than average.
Limitations and notes
The exact percentile is only as current and complete as the embedded reference distribution. Public source text exposes selected benchmark values but not a complete reproducible lookup table for every income, household-size, and comparison combination. Treat the result as an approximate reference and verify time-sensitive decisions against the latest Census or other authoritative distribution.
