The Wheel Horsepower Calculator estimates the power that reaches the wheels after drivetrain losses.

Formula

Wheel horsepower = engine horsepower × drivetrain efficiency. For front-wheel drive, drivetrain efficiency multiplies gearbox, differential, and driveshaft efficiencies. For rear-wheel drive, the propeller-shaft efficiency is included as well.

Outputs

The calculator reports wheel horsepower, overall drivetrain efficiency, drivetrain loss percentage, and horsepower lost through the drivetrain.

Limitations

Real dyno results can differ because drivetrain losses vary with temperature, speed, load, tires, and the test setup.
