A wind turbine can produce plenty of energy and still be a poor economic fit if the electricity value is low or daily ownership costs are high. This calculator keeps the economics deliberately simple: daily energy value minus a daily turbine cost, with an optional physics estimate when daily energy is not already known.

What this calculator does

The Wind Turbine Profit Calculator reports daily profit or loss, generated energy, energy revenue, daily turbine cost, and annualized profit. If you already know daily energy, that number drives the calculation. If not, the calculator estimates energy from swept area, air density, wind speed, and efficiency using the wind-power equation.

How to use it

Choose whether daily generated energy is known. If yes, enter kWh/day directly plus electricity price and daily turbine cost. If no, provide surface area or blade length, wind speed, air density, and efficiency so the calculator can estimate a daily energy value. The visible turbine-type selector does not currently change this profit calculation, so do not rely on it to choose geometry automatically.

How the calculation works

When energy is known, daily revenue = daily kWh × electricity price and daily profit = revenue − daily turbine cost. In estimated-energy mode, daily kWh = ½Aρv³η ÷ 1,000 × 24. Annualized profit is daily profit × 365. If explicit surface area is available, the calculator uses it; otherwise it can derive circular area from blade length.

Example

With the default known-energy path, 100 kWh/day sold or valued at US$0.12/kWh produces US$12/day of energy value. Subtracting a US$10 daily turbine cost leaves US$2/day, which annualizes to about US$730 if those same conditions persisted every day.

How to interpret the result

A positive headline value means the entered daily energy value exceeds the entered daily cost; a negative value means it does not. Because the calculation is daily and linear, the result is easy to stress-test by changing electricity price, energy production, or cost. The annual figure is simply the daily scenario repeated 365 times.

Limitations and notes

The model does not calculate financing, taxes, incentives, depreciation, maintenance schedules, replacement parts, curtailment, degradation, or a site-specific wind distribution. In estimated-energy mode it assumes a single wind speed for 24 hours, which can greatly misstate production. The turbine-type field is presently informational in this calculator’s calculation path.
