The number at the end matters, but the assumptions behind it matter just as much. The Yeast Converter helps you convert yeast weight among active dry, instant, fresh/compressed, and brewer’s yeast presets, then shows supporting values that make the estimate easier to sanity-check before you use it in the kitchen, brewery, party plan, or shopping list.
What this calculator does
The Yeast Converter uses the fields on this page to convert yeast weight among active dry, instant, fresh/compressed, and brewer’s yeast presets. Its primary output is labeled “Yeast conversion” and is displayed in g. Supporting readouts include From, To type, Ounces.
How to use it
Enter or select I want to convert from — Type, Quantity, I want to convert to — Type. Use the units displayed beside each quantity and change only the assumptions that describe your real recipe or event. The Yeast Converter then recalculates the primary result and its supporting values from those visible inputs.
How the calculation works
The entered yeast weight is normalized through active dry yeast. Relative factors are active dry 1, instant 2/3, fresh/compressed 2, and brewer’s yeast about 2.222; the target type is calculated from that common basis.
Example
With I want to convert from — Type = Active dry yeast, Quantity = 7 g, I want to convert to — Type = Instant yeast, the calculator returns 4.667 g for “Yeast conversion.” The same run also shows From = 7 g active; To type = instant; Ounces = 0.1646. Changing one input at a time makes it easy to see which assumption is driving the result.
How to interpret the result
Read the result as an equivalent quantity, not as proof that two ingredients behave identically in a recipe. For Yeast Converter, the converted number is most useful when you preserve the selected ingredient or form and the same unit convention.
Limitations and notes
Yeast brands and formulations vary; follow manufacturer directions when exact performance matters.
