Limitations and notes

CIWA-Ar is designed for clinician-observed alcohol-withdrawal monitoring. Severe withdrawal can cause seizures, delirium, arrhythmias, and death; people at risk should not use a web score to manage detoxification alone. Sedatives, delirium from other causes, language barriers, and inability to communicate can make the score unreliable.
